Grandmother Guides: The making of spirit dolls

January 22nd 2022 from 10-4pm at the Arco Iris Center in Central Santa Fe- Directions given upon registration.

SOLD OUT!

To begin this year of re-emergence, we will call upon our grandmother guides, both known and unknown, to come to us and inhabit wool, needle felted dolls. The practice of doll making is as ancient as the grandmothers themselves and can be a tool for us to call upon our souls gifts as well as guidance and protection from the beyond. Wool needle felting is a simple art that can open the door to a wonderfully creative craft life. Our class will begin with storytelling of spirit dolls through time and then a step by step journey into how to call and create your Grandmother Guide Dolls.  All craft materials will be supplied. Be prepared to be sitting on cushions in a wood heated, cozy yurt for the day and sharing the sweetness of community and creativity together.  A simple lunch of soup and bread will also be provided and enjoyed on the outdoor porch in the sunshine.

This class will be coordinated and hosted by Erin O’Neill of Growing Home and taught by Meagan Chandler, singer, storyteller, educator and magician.

About the Teacher:
Meagan first learned to make dolls as part of youth rites of passage programs with Golden Bridge in her hometown of Boulder, CO, to help young people uncover their unique soul gifts.  More recently she studied with Julia Inglis of Sacred Familiar to learn the art and craft of needle felted medicine dolls. Meagan says:  “Doll making is an ancient craft that has been part of many cultures all around the world and had allowed me to reconnect with a beautiful and potent ancestral practice.  For me, these dolls have been good company through hard times, companionship for amazing adventures, gifts of support to beloved friends, and offerings to feed and heal the wild and holy world.”
